Brass Eagle’s "Road To World Cup" 2002 3-Man International Paintball Tournament was hailed as one of the "Richest tournament in paintball history."

"Road to World Cup" consisted of three stages of tournament play: feeders, regionals and finals. Feeders were scheduled from February through July in the continental United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. In order to advance to the regional tournament, a team had to place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at a feeder. The 1st place team from each feeder received free entry into the regional tournament. The 2nd and 3rd place teams from each feeder qualified for the regional but are responsible for their own entry fees.

The regional tournaments are scheduled for the month of August. six regional tournaments were scheduled in the continental United States at: Splat Masters Paintball – Colorado Springs, CO; The Official Paintball Games of Dallas – Forney, TX; The Drop Zone – Topeka, KS; Challenge Park Xtreme – Joliet, IL; The War Club – Rome, NY; Arkenstone Paintball – Acworth, GA. In addition, three international regional tournaments are also scheduled at: Weekend Warriors – Olds, AB Canada; Changos’ Army – Mexico City, Mexico; Area No 1 - Outdoor Sports Paintball – Berlin, Germany Europe.

All the teams that qualified through feeder tournaments competed at their respective regional tournament. The teams played for the opportunity to advance to the finals. First place teams from each regional won a expenses paid trip to the greatest extreme sports park in the world, Challenge Park Xtreme to play in the “Road To World Cup” finals.

When all the dust was settled nine teams won the expenses paid trip to the finals at Challenge Park Xtreme. Central Regional winner Warped Image from Bellevue, Nebraska; Great Lakes Regional winner Tip off from Toledo, Ohio; Northeast Regional winner Three Kings from Rome, New York; Southeast Regional winner Body Snatchers from Savannah, Georgia; South Central Regional winner Evolution from Dallas, Texas; Mountain Regional winner Jesus Freaks from Monument, Colorado; Western Canada Regional winner Strick9 from Alberta, Canada; Europe Region winner Team Britwy from Kyiv, Ukraine; Mexico Regional winner Team Furia from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

The “Road To World Cup” finals were held on September 21st at Challenge Park Xtreme, where the teams were given the “red carpet treatment”. All of the teams were picked up at O’Hare International Airport and shuttled to the Wingate Inn Hotel in Joliet. They had access to the three 15 passenger vans for the entire weekend. Transportation was paid for by Brass Eagle Inc., which also furnished these amenities to participants: All of the teams were provided a four person hotel room; two Breakfasts, one Lunch and two Dinners were provided for the teams; entry fees were paid for the teams for Saturday's big day of the tournament, which was played on one JT SupAir field and one Pursuit Park field; there were four qualified refs per field; the event was run by Forest Brown of Challenge Park and Nathan Greenman, Lesa Gobble and Jason Alexander of Brass Eagle Inc.; bottled water, iced tea, Powerade and Mountain Dew were available for the teams during the tournament; there were JT Maxim paintballs for the teams to shoot at the tournament, all free of charge to the players. The top four teams were all very good, however, when the dust settled Team Furia ran away with the title of 3-main World Champions. Here are the top four finishers:

1st - Team Furia
2nd - Strick 9
3rd - Warped Image
4th - Tip Off

Brass Eagle also furnished all prizes for the event, including:
1st place prizes: 3 JT Excelerator 6.0 markers, 3 Evolution II loaders and 3 round-trip airline tickets from Mexico to Orlando for the World Cup.
2nd place prizes: 3 JT Excelerator 5.0 markers and 3 Evolution II loaders.
3rd place prizes: 3 JT Excelerator 3.5 markers and 3 Evolution II loaders.
4th through 8th places received 3 Evolution II loaders each.

After the event, the teams were taken to a local eatery where all the teams and staff were wined and dined yet again, courtesy of Brass Eagle Inc. After Sunday’s "morning after" breakfast, the shuttle took the teams back to Challenge Park Xtreme for a fun day of rec ball on the world famous Bedlam, Armageddon and Temple of Doom fields. Brass Eagle Inc. furnished all paint, field fees, air and CO2 used for the recreational games.

At this time Nathan Greenman had the honor of drawing the 5 teams that would win FREE airfare to the World Cup. The teams that didn’t make it to the finals, but participated in the feeders and regionals still had a chance to win a prize, with the winners being:

Section 8 Red from Mexico
Ottocockers from Imperial, Missouri
Section 8 Blue from Mexico
Total Eclipse from Calgary, Canada
Phoenix from Columbus, Ohio

These teams won 3 round-trip airline tickets to the World Cup with airfare paid for by Brass Eagle Inc. The company also drew 15 field owners / operators names as well. If their field hosted a feeder event they were eligible to win a round-trip airline ticket to the World Cup as well. The winners, drawn by Mr. Greenman, were:

Alter Ego Sports in Winnepeg, Canada
Big Sky Paintball in Cameron, Missouri
Triada in Lviv, Ukraine
Troja Paintball in Prague, Czech Republik
Adventure Town in Aarhus, Denmark
Paintball Battlefield Gifts in Amel, Belgium
Tornado Paintball in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine

All of these field owners / operators will receive a round-trip airline ticket to the World Cup courtesy of Brass Eagle Inc. After the drawings and the fun day of paintball at Challenge Park Xtreme the teams were shuttled back to O’Hare International Airport for their return flights. Brass Eagle intends to host the event next year on an even grander scale.
